From talk sport

Dunn suffered the latest in a long line of injury setbacks when he limped out of last Sunday's derby clash with Aston Villa because of a calf injury.

The former Blackburn player has been restricted to eight Premiership starts during the current campaign and Bruce has written him out of his plans for the games with Everton, Newcastle and Bolton.

Bruce said: "I can't see David playing again this season. You feel sorry for the lad. When you've only played something like two 90 minutes in two years it does become very difficult.

"There comes a time when whatever you say or do can't help the kid. He is a devastated footballer who just wants to play. He will need to be tough."

Dunn was ruled out for eight months after undergoing back surgery in January 2005 which related to nerves affecting his hamstrings.

He made a comeback in October but niggly thigh, hamstring and calf setbacks have meant he has never regained full match sharpness.

Bruce is also pessimistic about the chances of Stan Lazaridis being able to feature again because of a groin problem.

But he is more optimistic about Jiri Jarosik, Stephen Clemence and Muzzy Izzet being fit for the game with Newcastle on April 29.

Winger Jermaine Pennant and striker Emile Heskey are given a 50-50 chance of being fit for Saturday's clash with Everton at Goodison Park.

Pennant limped out of the midweek win over Blackburn after half an hour with a groin problem while Heskey had to come off early in the second period with an ankle setback.

Bruce said: "We will give the two of them as long as possible to try and be fit for Saturday. Their chances are around about 50-50."

Pennant is Birmingham's only ever-present player in the Premiership this season, having made 32 starts and three appearances as substitute.

I feared this about Dunny at viller park, but he can have a whole pre season now, as its only a calf strain, so keep on Dunny, we all love yer mate.

i'd release dunn from his contract, no point in him being here if he's injured all the time it's just a wast of a wage.

either that or his contract renaosiated and put him on a pay as you play deal.

David Dunn injured, shock horror. What a complete waste of time. We know his quality but my patience and anticipation of his imminent return to save us has worn out. "no"

You can see it now though can't you...

Dunn leaves Birmingham and plays all the games of the following season for his new club and gets in the England squad.

He would be such an exciting player to lose, because of injuries.

I really feel for the guy.

agreed sadly, its ever more clear he cant take the rigours of pro footy and he's a massive drain on resources we can ill afford. i like the guy, his attitude is spot on and he gives 100% every time he appears but, having only completed a full 90 mins something like 5 times in 2 seasons you have to sometimes admit defeat...bye dunny.. :(

Sad that he wont play another game for us this season.

If we go down then i would be happy for Dunn to go out on loan to a newly promoted prem club for the season - that way he is still our player, hopefully he will stay fit and we wont have to pay his wages.

Can there be a common sense answer ?

Its sad, I know, but who is going to pay David's wages if he went on loan?
Who is going to buy him and meet his wage demands? Even at a knockdown fee?

At least we have 3 months to get him sorted one way or the other. No deadlines to make, no exercise too soon, no pressure from being told how much of a big player he is, and how Blues need him etc.

3 months of solid, steady re-hab.

It's okay saying get rid but who in the prem is also willing to risk £30K+ a week on a player who doesn't play more than 60 minutes a month, like it or lump it we're stuck with him. If we are stuck with him lets look to get him fit over the pre-season and take it from there; you would hope that the training over the pre-season would be intense enough to either build Dunny up completely or prove whether he's likely to break down again.

I do feel sorry for the guy though cause he always looks well p****d when he gets injured.

We've just got to accept that we've been unluckier than we ever have before with injuries this season, hopefully we can get through this season and escape and put things right next season; I just don't think we prepared properly for this season and it is only now that players are looking fit enough to compete physically for 90 minutes+.

I do feel for the guy,but i do think though he was rushed back. I am glad he is not playing any more games this season and hopefully he can train and gragulary build up his strength in his lower half of his body.

All the best dunny get back and have a injury free pre-season.

i doubt any club would consider anything other than a pay-to-play deal, who would be foolish enough to risk it? :o

Agreed Nick but we'd still have to pay off his contract cause it would have to be part of a 'mutual agreement', and how good would it be to do that and find that someone's taken the chance cause there's no fee and Dunn gets a good pre-season under him and performs - we will have lost money on both counts.

I agree mate, my comment was more bemoaning BCFC's luck and the likelihood that if he went somewhere else he would never get injured again. :D

I'd Give him a chance after a pre season its no wonder he's injured all the time stuck into pressing premiership action, obviously not 100% healed and fit
